beauty in pale

all that beautiful snow
that graced us at christmastime
and after, and through this horrid flu
is melting now

january thaw
this is what an elder dog does
watches, listens, sniffs.
her eyes are cloudy
her hearing leaving,
but she loves both snow and wind.
oh, and me.

  1. She's sensing it all in new ways. And the love is apparent when she looks at you :)

Drip, drip, drip on my metal roof. Bummer.
Last night the glacier that was curling out from the north roof fell on the wood shed roof. Now THAT was fun to wake up to... after all kinds of flashing outside and power outage. It was, needless to say maybe, quite a night!

  2. must agree with valerie - nothing like the love and twinkle in a puppy's eyes...i think a few more of these shots and there could be a flip book in the making - really - slow mow for melting snow and wendy turning to check to see if YOU are still there...

  8. I love the sequence of Wendy being somewhat baffled by what happened to the white snow!

  9. How old is your furry one, Velma?

My collie-girl will be [aprox.] nine this April. She splays her feet like that sometimes, these days. I see she doesn't have the balance-on-a-dime of younger days. She "takes readings" off the winds and still watches with intensity, especially me. And snow is her Gift from the Gods...

How much poorer we would be without them.

Hope you're well on the mend now!

  10. There is a special beauty in the paling of a life. A time to pull in and focus on the truly important things...nature, change on the wind and relationships. This is the core and Miss Wendy is living it and sharing her journey with you.
Thank you for sharing her with us. Such a calm and winter-life post. Glad you are on the mend.

Thought I'd drop in for the new Year and I am sorry to hear about your flu but lovely to see pictures of Wendy looking good for an old dear. I know how she feels. Hope you are better soon.

  12. V- I had to smile when I saw the series of Wendy photos - it really looked like she was checking the scene out and then asking you the question:" is it really a good idea to go out in that cold and slush?" Go well. B
