spring gallops, horseless

 they're still making
tiny collections
there were two of these,
two days in a row,
two different shoes.
the first one was QUITE a surprise
at 7 a.m.
my foot exited the shoe
lightning quick,
glad mousy had gone away.
 i found another rock book
 which is a lot like
one of the old, big ones
we're having rain and rain and rain
some of which i drove through
yesterday and today
while i went to syracuse
 and back
twice
in order to get a new computer
 because the old is slowing
and the spinning wheel of death
made too frequent appearances.
 i completed my sketch book
fixed the mistakes
and will begin to use it.
thanks to tim ely
my mind is playing games
around pictures and ideas and books and
threads.
 while the spring wrestles
through
 high water and flooding
 create wonderful plays
layers of color
texture
meaning
red osier dogwood
 and then the fence lines
make their arbitrary
deliniations
between space and time
light and darkness.
this changing
leaving a bit more green
after every shower.

  1. Spring trots then stands still for more rain here too, only not nearly so scenic to my eyes. Your poor mice are hiding their stash in all the wrong places! Eeeek!

  2. michelle, those varmints! i'm thinking they should be OUTside, not inmyshoe. it's a beautiful thing, spring.

  3. How are the corn ladies of late?? The mice are a bit out of control here these days! I have found little collections, too, though luckily not in my shoes! Strange day of sun and clouds and rain and then big WIND. Burning a fire tonight, cold! Have a good week!!

  4. Oy... I kind of hate all the exclaimation points in my comment! Slightly overdramatic. ( but I really needed on here)

  5. valerie, sometimes only exclamation points will do! (he he he). but the corn ladies largely weathered the winter well. they have diminished in number, but to date i haven't seen how--i've never seen anyone harvesting them.

  6. They likely ran away in the night, me thinks, Velma, tired of being one beauty among many, they whisked themselves away to the big city to be one beauty in a world of skyscrapers!

  7. love all the bits and pieces in this post - except maybe the "wee mousies". like Alice that striped roof is made for weavers. Spring has sprung, so full of promise.

  8. alice, i can barely keep from photographing that roof!
valerie, they are most welcome to be far away!
jean, i'm sick of critters in the wrong places. did you notice the seeds had begun sprouting?

  9. I think maybe they are leaving offerings to the Goddess who tends the land on which they live... :)

read an article other day where scientists find mice are fearful of men, more so than women; testosterone makes them grimace (a sign of mouse discomfort) ... or something like.

  11. So many lovely images here Velma - I thought the fence was wearing a skirt. Mousy surprises are not much fun - hope they find a new home soon.

  12. fiona, i love the pared-downness of early spring, before everything greens and hides under layers of delicious chlorophyl.
