feeling cooked

focus here
has come a bit undone
with a madly unexpected middle of the night trip to the hospital
with my very ill sister
preparations and phone calls,
tests and tubes and beeping
sitting and being
in the ugly rooms of the place of healing.
my life on hold
while i attend to what's not only necessary
but is my sacred privilege.
but oh, it is exhausting work.
she is bettering, her far flung children are
winging back. (one through the mad floods of colorado)
makes me think
about some of jude's recent words
focus. spectrum. listening deeply.

  2. roberta, yep, but, remember that funny children's book: could be worse, when the grandpa really really makes it worse? it could be, and i'm glad it's not! but thanks for the words, much appreciated.

  3. Oh, dear.... so intense! Speedy healing to your sister. I dream of a day when hospitals are filled with green courtyards of trees and plants inside. Each room surrounding a healing garden oasis. If one can't get up and go sit by the bubbling fountain, one can be positioned in the room to see the green, hear the dripping water, and smell the jasmine. Something like that. Cause what we have now is something to be survived, NOT an environment that supports healing.

  4. YES, valerie. the waiting and healing would be so much better in a place of living things and fountains, and by the way open the damned hospital windows!!!

  13. Sending love and healing thoughts to you and your family. I shared some of these same thoughts today while I sat having a breathing treatment...I noticed the rhythm and spurts of no rhythm that the walk-in clinic held. I thought of those who hold their days within that rhythm. May her (and your) time there be short.

  15. nancy, i think health care should be done better and better and more lovingly. it's better than in the 70's when i spent lots of time there caring for my folks. hey, good healing to your lungs.
india, it's been quite an episode in the theater of the absurd.
