care

 sometimes another person
saves you
and they don't even know it
 sometimes
someone knows exactly
 what will raise the spirit
restore.
a book of images
silver, cloth, paper
(three women)
to examine, perhaps with a lens?
 your eyes
a hand lens
a sherlock style glass!
and change your seeing
 on my table
these things
join the books in process
i am happy to follow where
the books will lead me,
even a tiny one
especially a tiny one
to wear over my heart.
thank you
roz.
yesterday friends
reached out to me
you know, sometimes you need that
more than you even imagine.
there was a bear
a drum
a hawk,
words, prayers, even,
and winter
all visited me leaving
images that keep me alive.

introducing:

roz making shifu
roz hawker has a new blog.
you should go over and meet her!
why? well, having JUST taken her class
 velma's classwork
 and i continue at home
at beautiful silks' symposium
where i among a cast of characters taught.
roz taught me to look at stitches
differently.
to see them as marks.
drawing, even.
and so i've been stitching
warping the little loom
for shifu

and missing the scent of eucalyptus.

settling, now

 i look through dyed shifu
into the sky
where a spruce and a maple
take up air space
and this morning
i'm threading heddles
guarded by my best friend
a long warp on my little loom
cotton for shifu
surrounded by the heat of northern summer
the colours of australia
 tiny packets of threads
from roz's class
 and my little hidey sack
how they look in the mottled summer light
this flax paper is waiting
my working into it's strong surface
a few things to think about
high summer
hot
stormy
insectful
blessed.

a final treat for me

i spent two days at the end of my visit
stitching with roz hawker
 whose amazing work you see
above
 we were alchemists,
alchemistresses
 all seven of us
 dyeing and stitching
 and peacefully
 making marks
i say good bye to australia
hello to home starting today.
an enormous thank you to my hosts
marion and elephant at beautiful silks.
and to my lovely
students
and staff at beautiful silks.
this place is very special.
