a brief visit to the ocean
where i spied
a ship and a known landscape in the distance
these tapestries turn up
now and then
once in a blue...er...
goose? moon?
it has begun...even though
i felt summer turn her head
towards fall a while ago
it is here, the feeling of changes
not a rush, yet,
but the birds have been toning
up their muscles in preparation
the days are shorter,
lingering, arguing with darkness on either end
wait wait
but winter is traveling
inevitably.
i got a "free" photo book
from shutterfly
and orbitz
a photo chronicle
of my trip to australia
for the nature's colours in the city
symposium
the biggest error was the cover text color
sigh.
and in johnson, vermont
on my way to bar harbor,
i found ebenezer books.
a REAL bookstore
the kind with wonderful books
and i bought this new jane yolen poetry collection.
time to get some chores done,
make some "stuff"
and enjoy the sunshine and breeze.
Mmmm.... feast of color, textures and, um... blue goose moon! Like that. Today there is the braiding of summer and fall... I see the color begining to pop here and there, skeletal leaves, browning ferns, but its warm and slightly humid today, summery with a tinge of fall. Happy Septmber. How did Wendy like the journey?
ReplyDeletefor the last few days I've been thinking "Velma - ecotone" you introduced me to the word/idea. I don't like to think of the passing of summer but these few brief weeks of change are my favorite time of year. personally I'm stuck in the corridor, waiting for something to change. the book looks like a wonderful memory. and, yes - how did Wendy manage her trip?
ReplyDeleteyes, v and j, the change is sniffling around at the threshold...and wendy handled the trip well. some difficulty getting into and out of the car, stairs, etc. but back home, she knows every step, and is so much better. every moment with her is special.
ReplyDeletethe second morning of spring here at the creek and I am greeted by one of the biggest frosts of the winter - white white white dusting the ground everywhere..... brrrrrrrr!
ReplyDeletethe birds have been toning

ReplyDeletethis season is one of the few changes i like in life-
and thank you for mentioning a new jane yolen, she's a favorite.
"My life has been a tapestry..." - this one is a beauty. Along with the blue goose moon :)
ReplyDeleteYour book looks luscious, would love to hold it and study it. Ah, Yolen, always a favorite. Got chilly this morning, finally.
Dear Wendy touches so many.
i too am sniffing the breeze
ReplyDeletehopping the pond tomorrow

I loved this meandering post V - all that travel and reminiscing and seasons contained so sweetly in a single spot. Enjoy the moments.
ReplyDeleteone does meander, fiona, as fall comes knocking.
ReplyDeletehow lovely your book looks Velma...I want to peer inside the pages.
ReplyDeleteIt was good to read that your beloved dog is doing much better!
