a strange thing happened at work, i wrote a shifu book poem. it isn't yet on vellum.
and the latest shifu book has a maine stone, too. i still have large rock pages to make. and sewing and binding and framing. and a weekend that's raining, and, they say, will snow.
the books are magnificent.
ReplyDeleteyour book works are inspiring and so textured, tactile and appealing.... have a good weekend
ReplyDeleteLovely, all of it. I've been wondering if there will be a jasper book...
ReplyDeletethanks deanna and cathy.
ReplyDeletemelissa, i HAVE been pondering it. those stones, could you hear them?
love those little shifu pages. Best wishes for a wonderful show, wish I was close enough to see it.
ReplyDeleteme, too!
ReplyDeletethey say it will.
ReplyDeletethese pages stack up like nothing i have ever seen.
they are a bit funky, but totally appropriate as rock books. i've sen on one, so far!
ReplyDeletethe shifu books are so beautiful, i had a closer look and i love the extra touch with the woven binding, that's definately yours. and i was curious about the blanket stiched container in the background?
ReplyDeletedo you know Adele Outteridge? an Aussie book artist, friend of mine. Adele would love to see your books. k.
the container is high shrink flax, quite simply made, with some daylily inclusions. it needed some stitching. i'll try to take a pic. i know of adele, send her over to wake robin to take a look!
ReplyDeletewill do...k.
ReplyDeleteThe little shifu book is a darling and I love the stack of pages up the top. The weaving through the tapes' stitching is inspired!
ReplyDeletelovely, lovely stitching my god!
ReplyDeleteV-just me wioth another odd question - I was wondering if the odd shaped books are the pages for the rocfk books - greqat solid chuinky works. B
ReplyDeleteyep, that's the reason for those funky shapes.
ReplyDeleteadditionally, i had to draw the interior rock shape, and since these were naturally split they are uneven, so i had to choose which size i would go with. then i had to decide if/how i would bind them. the two large ones have such large sheets, i couldn't figure out a viable method to make the pages for a page spread--plus my press has an 18 inch in one dimension limit. so without changing technology or going to another place to make sheets, i made the choice to make separate pages, or as carol blinn calls them sandwiches.
ReplyDeleteyour books are such a wonder to behold.
ReplyDeleteI will have to become a follower so that I can come back and take in other posts from time before.
welcome, tammie
ReplyDeleteWonderfully tactile. My fingers are itching :-)
ReplyDeletethese books kept me happy and interested for a long time
