today there was almost no snow
left from last week's thaw
but the cold crept back
and it's snowing some
and all the little drainages
in this place of wetlands
and springs
sinkholes and deer drinks
were still flowing full
under new ice
and this small spot
was chortling
as it drained toward my land
and eventually
the beaver ponds.
must be so much nicer to have water/snow/water/snow chortle near by. much better then police sirens and loud motors from cars...city life is never this silent.
ReplyDeletehenrietta, even this country road is way too loud for me.
ReplyDeleteSome of the ice looks as though big drops instantly transformed to ice, bubbly - almost like rock candy.
ReplyDeleteIck, rock candy, who ever ate that?
Good word, "chortling", captures it.
extraordinary for me to see, my only close reference point is underground caving and seeing the stalactites and s'mites
ReplyDeletechortling means spring! love those last icicles hanging from the branches
ReplyDeletethe icicles are exquisite in their brief and fragile beauty
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos I love the last picture...:)
ReplyDeleteLovely drippy-icy images - that gurgle, chortle must be a sign of Spring?
ReplyDeletevalerie, why not rock candy? i mean, i have rock books-
ReplyDeletekaite, this ice was pretty fat and round, rather than crystalline and sharp
lF, perhaps, but it's only early march-
jean, yes
anne, thanks, the ice was quite fine here
fiona, i'm afraid it's pretty early still!
frozen jewels to dream about.
ReplyDeleteneki, uncut and ephemeral!
ReplyDeleteIn our Summer heat the sight of all that ice makes me thirsty. I like the last photo with the branch encased in ice.
