hanging rock

first spot the poop,
then look up.
we had our picnic at hanging rock.
 yep, just hanging out midday
in a sunny spot.
and then, later, a herd
paralleling the trail the highway made
 there were presences
 grimaces
and the light looks like november
 and felt like october
holes and leyers and lichens and
 a heart for my friend
(you know who you are)
it was cold and sunny and beautiful.
 astonishing
 frost melting
and a shivering echidna
we ate well.
all three returned.
and they serve ben and jerry's ice cream
at the visitor center.

  1. Well done you! Koalas are often so sleepy you don't see them and echidnas are so shy - fancy seeing them plus kangaroos! yay! looks like a magical day...

  9. drop bear poo, being pure eucalyptus plus a few digestive enzymes, leaves a lime green jelly-bean shaped print when bundled.
unfortunately the aroma leaves something to be desired

  15. what a perfect day to end your adventures - now you will have to read the book Picnic at Hanging Rock (or see the movie) if you haven't already - I do hope you come back and I get to meet you next time or maybe you could make a detour to NZ when you head back this way

  17. drop bears - ancient mythical beings sent to frighten tourists and new comers to this land. they can fall from anywhere at any time, and cause havoc. they masquerade as koalas! you had a lucky escape!!
