i was driving home
after visiting some land
a little south and east of here
when i saw an enormous intelligence
staring straight into my windshield, my face, my heart
from it's kill on the roadside
and up,
huge!
flew the barred owl,
who waited for me to find
the camera, looking from
me to another car and back
giving me time and a pose
before soaring out into the winter forest.
fantastic!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous - lucky you! My barred owls have been quiet as of late, but how I love their shrieks and monkey-sounding calls in the summer nights. They are often so close I hear the soft cooings in between loud calls.
ReplyDeletemagnificent. i have never seen an owl in person.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful! Your last 4 posts have all been my colours so much - I love that softness in the grey, the brown, the cream...
ReplyDeleteHow handsome and what a gift! I have never seen an owl so close before.

How fortunate that encounter! I have encountered barn owls face to face, and hawks, but oh, yours was a rare treat, and brilliant to have called it an "intelligence"--indeed! My Friday post is partially about the snowy owl that has traveled further South this year due to climate changes up north. How beautiful are these creatures!
