completed

i've finished a commission for a friend. i don't usually take on this kind of project, mostly because i can't be honest working like this. other issues get in the way. but this piece didn't work like that, i took a chance, and i was able to combine my loves, paper, shifu, dyeing, sewing, and put them all together for someone who trusted the work, trusted my work. trusted my work. isn't that amazing?

  1. It's very beautiful...wishing I could look in person!
what a good feeling that must be, for someone to trust your work & to trust it yourself too...trusting the recipient as well must play a big part too I imagine?

  3. That is just beautiful! The side view of the pages helps me understand the making of the paper.

  4. i am trusting her, too, and i'm just guessing here, because it's not yet in her hands, but it feels right. and this whole experience is just extraordinary, and totally simple, too.

about the papers, they're from a wide variety of plants and rag, from my archives.

  6. That looks gorgeous. It makes me want to touch it. I find it hard to do things to order as well.

  9. it's an object I would love to hold...

I LIKE commission work because it pushes me in different directions and generally has a deadline... limits that create something new sometimes...
