reprieve

yesterday when i returned
from errands,
wendy was up
curious about the stuff i'd dragged into the house.
groceries, flea market cloth and a blender
she drank and smelled the dry food
(that was sitting there, just in case).
i placed some tuna on the floor.
she sniffed and sniffed, and then ate!
more than a taste.
so i went to town
bought yucky smelling fancy gooey dog food
which she ate. not much,
but plenty for one who has fasted so long.
this morning she
asked to eat again.
and yesterday she barked and wagged her tail lots,
so it seems we are in a reprieve
for a bit.
me, i am learning patience, acceptance.

  1. maybe she has simply had a tummy bug recently? saying that i realise she has cardiac problems as does Charlie but one can have overlapping conditions.

  2. robyn, yes! and oh, my.
kaite, i think the cardiac issue plus her sensitivity...and, well, who knows. this reprieve might be two days, two weeks, two months, but it won't be long. and that's ok.

  6. I'm so happy for you. Dogs always know what's best for them and I reckon you're doing exactly the right thing listening to her. Rosie the wolfhound sends her love to you both.

  9. I always found that when my animals were ill (both dogs and cats) that oily fish seemed the one thing that they could be tempted by -- my darling sashi (german shepard: 1987 - 2001) had a stroke and a heart attack in her final year - I could always rely on a can of tuna packed in olive oil to perk her up. (sashi was finally taken out by a snake bite - poor old gal..... ps only weeks after we laid her to rest under 'the dog tree' I learned I was pregnant with our lad.... sass - yes he was named after the dog)

good dogs are with us always

  12. love your photo!

my dog is a master of these reprieves. he's famous in fact for having nine lives, perhaps he is a cat. My husband says he stays to be with me, perhaps Wendy is tethered by love!

  15. Hey Wendy,
Are you playing heart games with Velma?
Strange my Snoopy crashed the village festival yesterday and ate way way too much grilled boar meat (It is a festival tradition to feed Snoopy as much as she can possibly wolf down.) and I had to go fetch her and carry her home as she has weak legs already and the extra tummy fill put her over her back leg load capacity. Today she is crashed in the shade outside the barn unable to walk, looking guilty and confused. A food hangover. I hope that is all.
Be kind to Velma Wendy and jump start yourself.

  16. BRYAN, WENDY HERE, VELMA WORRIES TOO MUCH, I'M OLD BUT THAT'S HOW IT SHOULD BE. YOUR SNOOPY NEEDS MORE SELF-DISCIPLINE, LIKE ME. VELMA SAYS SHE HOPES SNOOPY FEELS BETTER SOON. ME, TOO.
