mother's day

these are the flowers i love
pale greens and yellows, and white, white
 black cherry blossoms white
this is the structure i am letting go
 the kids' swing
 once filled with hay
rob climbed up here and examined this platform
 and the stairway down
 hand hewn
today is mother's day
i am thinking of the hard choices mothers make.
that first choice, to bear a child or not, is just the beginning.
she is there, all right,
choice made.

  4. Velma, your pictures and words are like poems - everything 'belonging', nothing wasted, simple and pure...when there is so much I don't want to know on the internet, your blog's such a relief. Happy days to you.

  5. mmmm that structure is just divine.... hope you've had a lovely mothers day velma.... I'm certainly glad my mum made the choice to have babes! and I'm glad I chose motherhood too.... there's nothing to compare to that first look into the eyes of your slippery wet babe to make you suddenly aware of the continuity of life, the raw power of nature, and the unmeasurable love you can feel for another being.... xx

  7. V-what a beautiful barn - you are letting it go because? Will you recycle it or just let nature reclaim it? Go well. B

  8. ...because i can't possibly afford to have even the amish (who are very reasonable) do the repairs. this has been hard to accept, because i love this barn.

  10. So sad to have to let it go, but it has served well. Being a mother is about caring and then letting go. Your blog posts are a blessing to me. Thank you for your caring.
