last night's news was harsh, but not unexpected
startled me when it appeared on my screen
~~~
~~~
this man is one of my heros
my earliest attempts on a computer were horrific
an ibm state of the art
my ex brought home
but then
i tried an apple 2
remember them?
My first Mac was an LC II- previously, like you I struggled on an IBM DOS setup, also bought by my ex-husband. Apple changed my life - the graphic design business I have now was made possible by that first Mac.
ReplyDeleteGood news about Wendy :)
colleen, i even remember this weird thing called a power mac and it was connected to something i learned later was the internet. we were talking to scotland in a grad school class!
ReplyDeleteand thanks!
ReplyDeleteI've told my my apple tale here: http://rhondaayliffe.blogspot.com/2011/10/end-of-era.html
ReplyDeletewhat a hole jobs will leave.....
I've been on macs since I started computing. Its horrible every time I try to use a PC. Jobs was an inspiration, loved the video posted over at Spirit Cloth, made me cry.....
ReplyDeletefunny how news like that can take us by surprise even when we half expect it...
ReplyDeleteit's interesting his name was jobs....don't you think? i wonder how many he actually created worldwide?
r, that's a great story
ReplyDeletev, me, too...
g, well, it was yet another pancreatic cancer. and yes, a lovely thing.
sigh...
ReplyDeleteAs a senior in HS in the late 1980s, a couple of teachers from the district, including my senior writing teacher, Terry Tiernan, managed to put our class in connection with a few other students across the world experimenting with this new technique of hooking computers together through the phone line. I had no idea what a revolutionary idea that was going to turn out to be! We were using Macs in Norwood before anyone else was looking at PCs in local education.
ReplyDeletedefinitely, cait.
ReplyDeleteginny, i was in grad school in 91 or thereabouts...and we had a mad, wonderful, genius teacher...who taught statistics, but had us playing on macs.
Macs changed my life as well. I remember the black horror of c:/ compared to the smiling little mac screen. My first computer was MacIntosh Classic II and am typing this on MacBook.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog and work, Tuija from Finland
hi tuija, yes, they made something obtuse and weirdly scientific absolutely accessible. i vastly preferred the mac's old word processing programs over microsoft.word. and tuija, someday i will come to finland!
ReplyDeleteLove my iPod...my first Apple product He was a brilliant mind.
ReplyDeleteYes, I remember. Just this evening we were talking about how much technology has changes during the past 25 years, going from typewriters to smart phones. Most of that would not have happened without Mr. Jobs, or at least it would have happened in a much clunkier way. Happy to hear that Wendy has perked up!
ReplyDeleteyes, penny, brilliant
ReplyDeletelotta, yes, and thank you. didn't you just get a typewriter?!!!
