31 days

two more views for those who have interest
can't find my best photos.
sigh
31 days, (i think 33 pages altogether)
lokta shifu pages, sewn on vellum and laced into a limp vellum structure.
thick vellum cover was dyed to resemble a summer landscape.
each day of august i made a page to record the day.
10 days of puppy sitting the beautiful, demanding tess, not fun.
not one night's sleep during those days.
this sculptural book feels good in the hands.

  4. love the concept, marking/commemorating each prescious day -the good and not so good.

  5. It's beautiful. A book to read with the hands as much as with the eyes.

  6. Beautiful work, Velma, and very much an object that begs you to pick it up and take a peek...

  7. someone asked: yes, i made a page each day, not the spinning and weaving, they were done first, but the response to the day on each page was a daily meditation. it was challenging to commit to a daily practice.

  8. Velma...This is very challenging, I know, because I've never succeeded in keeping it up for a week let alone a month. Congratulations to you...makes me want to try again...smaller perhaps!

  9. Hi Velma, this is a beautiful book; and what better things to do when one can't sleep with excitable puppies but make books? I like the idea of preparing pages in advance and then responding to a day, every day, each month. I wonder if I could do that?? Go well F

  10. Beautiful! Before I read your text, I was wondering if the cover was dyed or if it was some sort of photo transfer of a landscape...lovely.

  11. p, i don't mind a commitment, just breaking my word is abominable!
f, it was a great practice. worth it.
m, it was a stiff piece of vellum that i rested in an acid (formulated for silk) dye. i can't remember if i mixed the color, though, but i did just set it on the shallow pan, brought it up, and re -et it, creating a slight overlap in the horizon that worked beautifully.
