when there is good energy in the mill, when i'm teaching and people are really learning...
i am able sometimes to continue that energy
with magic of my own.
this is hosta leaf paper
which is usually gray
which is usually gray
i cooked them late last fall
they spent the winter in a paint strainer bag
retting and waiting for me to rinse, hydrate, and make paper.
i did,
golden sheets,
remind me of the ochre that disappears
as spring creeps into the fields.
captured here briefly
i hate loosing the bleached colors of winter.
winter papers.
gone,
but will return.

Lovely gold! I will be in your neck of the woods in early August...would love to stop by and see you.
ReplyDeletebonnie, do keep in touch!
ReplyDeletethe punky hosta made it into sheets! yay.
ReplyDeletei had huge hostas last year, i am ashamed that the leaves went into the compost. how lovely! like perfectly baked bread.
ReplyDeletewonderful colour. I grow all sorts of hosta, even minatures. Don't think the leaves would make it across the border or I'd send you a pkg. in the fall.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is quite a change from fall hosta! Thanks, I may have to try that...let us know if the something gold stays?
ReplyDeletejude, compost is good food for the soil!
ReplyDeletejean, can you just imagine them at the border?!
melissa, i am absolutely shocked by the color.
beautiful! makes me want to reach out and touch them
ReplyDeletebeautiful papers. i did a search just now as i didn't know what hosta was and you might be interested in a Liese Bronfenbrenner who created an art quilt using golden dried hosta leaves and the paper made from them, also golden.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous golden papers!
ReplyDeleteYou are like the miller's daughter in Rumplestiltskin.
ReplyDeletefor golden sunshine books !
ReplyDeletethanks everyone. the color just amazed me. and neki-i think you planted the seed for a new book!!!
ReplyDeletePaper for happy thoughts...
ReplyDeletehappy!
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's the photograph, not the subject, that attracts. I just LOVE the first photo. Just my personal quirk.
