today's journey

"you're not a human on a spiritual journey, you're a spirit on a human journey."
a quote from a pine ridge organizer of skateboarding youth
think on this--
 my neighbor's small barn,
with stripy roof
wild cuke, looks like my hair
when mine first dries this happens
last night when i stepped into the shower
i saw this small one
after the shower it went outside
how do these guys get in my house?
mice galore this fall-
many, many trapped so far.
today i went to lake placid
to drop off five works for an invitational show
the big little art show
opening next friday, should you be in the area.
don't know if i'll make the opening, but four of the rock books will appear.
the fifth is too BIG.
i went all the way to keene valley
a somewhat dizzying drive when the leaves are off
 but it was beautiful
at home there are a few things i wanted to share: from carol
 from therese
 carol's new book is out
 a wonderul gift from frank
he certainly has a lot to say about spuds
and the like
i'm reading this,
another very fine book.
 and these came
 elissa campbell's work

yep, i won these!!!
and this guy got none of my
excellent potato salad from
the lakeside deli in saranac lake.
it was watching, waiting.

morning commute

 work days are long lately
but on daylight savings time these mornings
 i get to see
waterfowl.
these geese are NOT swimming
they are walking on water--
ice actually.
a bit further along my route i get to see these beings.
i love the sunlight on them.
 they're practically lifelike
aflame, even
and they exist only on amish farms.
where at each end of the day
i see teams of workhorses hitched and tied at the ends of rows
of corn grown against the dearth of winter.
 surprise!
 just outside of the town
where i'm working now
(and teaching a few extra hours)
there was what looked like a pullover of some kind
(it's usually a car and a call on a cell phone)
it was, however,
a young man driving this hefty team
he was preforming a maneuver
with the tree and harness.
the horses were getting untangled it looked like.
7:35 this morning.

oh very tired!

it arrived yesterday.
it's beautiful.
heavy.
a really nifty book.
out the window this morning there still was snow.
it was 20 degrees. cold.
i've been tutoring two hours after school
this week.
i'm very tired,
but it's worth it.
he's coming along.
i, however, am slowly fading away.
10 hour days plus travel
are a bit much.
but then there's the book!
Shifu Sanka
waits at home with a few others
capturing my attention.
(more on those in a litttle bit.)

new web site

happy singing in blogland!
 borrowing aimee's heart to say
happy new website to the amazing
susan byrd
who is over at the byrd's nest
i'm not sure if sue knows that i have
rather a thing for birds' nests
but her new book is on the market
and i'm waiting for my copy to arrive.
this made me a little nostalgic…
and i pulled out some photos
of my first shifu book
spring walk
 a list of sights seen
on my frequent walks
around my old farm
i think this one is special
and have used it many times
to talk about how a book can come together
in a way that is just right.
spring walk.
2009
autumn evening (right now)
2013.

not a fan

i am definitely not a fan
of daylight savings time.
i go home
later now because of the new school
and a student i tutor
and it will be dark so early.
arrgh.
 so the week we just
said goodbye to
was full.
many
 books came to my house:
 but by far
the most special was this one
another by carol blinn
guess what it's about!
 beaver are newly busy
over at the new place
they get to work and nail the aspens
stealth chewers,
better than a tupper lake logger.
this startled me on my walk tonight
 all light and shadow
and edges
 two feed sacks on the
barbed wire
we had a big wind on friday
as the front moved through.
 a textile?
 a fence.
 and the six calves
separated from their mums
came trotting and snorting and asking
for a photo shoot
how could i not oblige?
another edge
in front of my pasture.
autumn today, really chilly
clear, sunny, hat and mittens weather
again.
