falling

virginia creeper was here last weekend
but the frost changed all this
in fact all these pictures are changed now
that's ok.
a place called home is making me happy
with a stash of cordwood
and off the grid power.
those juneberries are naked now.
fall danced all around
but this is now tan and purple and deep gold
this too,
moving to darker now
in the sun the clydesdales (now only four of them)
are beautiful
 i found some tansy
blossoms couldn't stand up to the cold
inside some kami-ito waits on my walnut niddy noddy.
and the last two books that still need stitches
are waiting, too.
some paper on glennis' beautiful dyeing
and i had a bit of stuff still to peel off
flax paper
after the first pressing.
and i wish i had my very own groomer
i think it might be a friendly thing
those of us who don't like too much touching, or talking
may like a little scratchy tongue
just behind the ears...
or maybe not.
it's been a long week, it's not over,
but i will say a huge thank you to
all of you who have trusted me
and purchased the map book.
there are some left still,
should you feel so inclined.
so far some have made it to their new homes
with feedback
that makes me blush
and smile.
i hope the rest make it through with the postal service's care
safe and sound.
me, i'm exhausted by the rigors of eleven students.
which sounds ridiculous, i know.
i know.

weather change

the wind is whistling through some autumn weather right now.
i can see the rain go sideways.
and in between
the sun shimmers hard.
autumn reminds me of each old autumn
and is entirely new
every time.
 sky and ochre and soil
it's serious about change.

turning

the land has turned her face towards autumn
this week,
i shut windows at night
to keep in the warm
wake to a chilly scarf
draped over my face
my open bedroom window
 reaching into the recent past
letting in the cool
so happy as summer winds down.
 light and shade
layers
on the hill meadow
where sheep and the mare called flame
used to pasture.
and smiling susans
today i have much to do
or nothing
as it pleases me.
i love rare days like this.

caring through change

 it seems that caring
is good work
something to continue
to do
as worlds change
 in fall we gather
together thinking collecting
for the big change coming
i count on farmers to grow food
i gather at the market
~
my indigo dries in the garage
i am counting on color
to fortify this winter
~
and the caring i found
through this strange interspace
~
you friends over there in the other world
are in spring
while we are shedding the excess
green
waiting for snow
~
keeps me connected
~
i wove last night
after winding balls of lokta
from a skein
 stayed up late weaving
a video anchored me
my fingers dancing
over the warp
lokta shifu square
four selvedges
spun dry
needle woven
on the stump
~
i was a little part of this
which makes me happy

vining

transitioning weather and trees. i noticed leaves coloring, they're saying the color show is early this year. could be. vines are thriving. virginia creeper is reddening.
where this truck lives other vehicles live also. and a herd of horses. i love this site. it's rocky and southren exposed, beautiful. but what a mess, essentially a junkyard. all this old metal. shanna leino who makes amazing books and tools for bookbinding (talas sells them) also repurposes found steel in her jewelry. she is inspired by objects full of meaning, sewing machine bobbins, for example. strike metals.
three tube rivets hold the discs apart.
a gathering of cards made their way to me from warwick press. mouse on mouse. carol's attention to the smallest detail amazes me, the colors handpainted. love that face! i don't pretend to be able to understand this: running a trapline year round and loving the beautiful mouseness of mice. c.s.lewis portrayed a workable truce between humans and mice in that hideous strength. i wish it were so.
