i am teaching a class at our local st. lawrence county arts council. i knew that. except it's tomorrow, sorta crept up on me. it's called magic spirit bag, and it's about weaving a long cloth, folding it and seaming up the sides. to embue it with magic it will need items that inspire the user, bits of rag, bones, wild fiber, beads, wire, feathers, fur, whatever can be included that has meaning to the user. i envision it as small, big enough to hold something, if only dreams. a useful tapestry.
my bag is packed, and i'm ready to go. a saddle bag, first time i've used it to to haul stuff.
i'd like such a bag....
ReplyDeletei used fur in a little bag a while back. i like this a lot. i wish i could be there....
ReplyDeletei wish you two were here, too. we'd be rockin' and rollin'! woohoo!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bag... and beautiful concept...
ReplyDeleteoh, dear, my packed saddle bag was made far away. our bags will be small, the size for a hand or a teeny tiny angora bunny.
ReplyDeleteWe should all be able to hold our dreams in something...what a beautiful idea to make a spirit bag.
ReplyDeleteYes, a lovely idea. It should be a great experience - wish I could be there too!
ReplyDeletea bag for forgotten memories, wish it could be woven.
ReplyDeleteyay! that is a PERFECT class. i'm so glad it's running, even if it made you rush to get there.
ReplyDeleteI like dreaming about this sort of bag...hope the workshop is going well.
ReplyDeletethank you! This is brilliant. A long piece, folded & sewn, enclosing items into a bundle. It must be an old (ancient) idea
ReplyDeleteI'm really enjoying reading back through your blog now that I have some time... I've done a bit of tapestry weaving myself, made a bag once as well. Lovely to see all your different yet related work.
ReplyDeleteOk, I'm off to more older posts!
